Scientists discover “habitable planets” near Earth — Radio Concierto Chile

Definitely, one of the questions we ask ourselves the most as humansis if really are we alone in the universe. And it is that the chances that there is intelligent life on other planets are relatively high, but the chances of finding it are really low.

Now, scientists discovered two nearby planets, very similar to planet Earth, but larger. In fact, some experts say that it could even harbor life.

Life on other Earths?

In a press release, a team of international scientists led by Belgian experts discovered two “Super-Earths”. These are larger than our planet, but smaller than giant ice planets like Uranus or Neptune. Both are only 100 light years away.

both exoplanets, orbit around SPECULOOS-2a small cool dwarf star named after the “Search for Habitable Planets EClipsing ULtra-cOOl Stars” (SPECULOOS) telescopes in Chile and Spain. These were used to find the low-heat star around which the newly discovered planets orbit..

one of these new Super-Earths, the LP 890-9b, is about 30 percent larger than our Earth. The other, SPECULOOS-2cis 40% percent larger than Earth and appears habitable, according to the consortium’s new article in the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics.

One of the most curious things about this potentially habitable planet is that it is much closer to its sun than we are to ours: just 3.7 million miles, compared to 93 million miles between Earth and our Sun.

“Although this planet orbits very close to its star, at a distance about 10 times less than that of Mercury around our Sun, the amount of stellar radiation it receives is still low, and could allow the presence of liquid water on the surface of the planet, provided it has enough atmosphere”, Francisco Pozuelos, main researcher co-author of the article from the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia, as reported futuristic.
