This weekend, Chile faces Peru in the series for World Group I of the 2022 Davis Cup. The team led by Nicolás Massú plays on the road in Lima and had the support of a special guest: Carlos Caszely.
The historic ex-soccer player spoke with TVN and revealed that he came to the appointment by the special invitation of the former tennis player, who had a special gesture with him after the harsh death of his wife, María de los Ángeles Guerra.
“Some time ago, after the enormous misfortune I had, I met Nico Massú and he told me ‘why don’t you go to the Davis Cup?’ And then they extended the invitation to attend,” Caszely told the media.
Along the same lines, he added that “I think my life partner would be happy to watch tennis and see Alejandro’s (Tabilo) victory.”
The former athlete also spoke about the affection he received at the stadium, despite the fact that he was visiting Chile at the event.
“The affection of the people is impressive, because when they began to sing my name, even the captain of Peru came to greet me and give me a hug and thank me for being here,” said Carlos, who was one of his granddaughters at the stadium.
“For one it is strange that a footballer is looking at this sport, but I have always been very fond of tennis,” he added, noting that his late wife had been a “great tennis player”.
Finally, after being consulted about what it has meant for him to be there emotionally, after the hard loss that mourns him.
“Let me enjoy this moment nothing else, I am enjoying it. It’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed such an important game. I want to enjoy, I don’t want to suffer”, commented Carlos very excited.
