La Roja has “European reinforcements”

The Chilean soccer team will face Morocco on September 23 and four days later it will face Qatar. Both clashes will be in Europe.

For the tour of the old continent, coach Eduardo Berizzo will have a big difference compared to what he experienced in his first friendlies in Asia: a greater number of players in Europe and more minutes in the body. Marcelino Núñez and Víctor Felipe Méndez head that list.

For the clashes in Asia, Núñez was still at Universidad Católica and Méndez played for Unión Española. Today, both are starters in Europe: Marcelino at Norwich in England and the Valdivian at CSKA Moscow in Russia.

In Great Britain, the former UC has played 713 minutes and one goal, while Méndez has participated in 334 with the giant from the Russian capital. Both cases, without a doubt, will give a leap in quality to the Roja de Berizzo.

Another particular case is that of Francisco Sierralta. The defender finished last season with very little prominence at Watford in England, but now he is immovable in the Championship, recovering the ground he had in the 2020-2021 season, when he emerged as one of the figures in the rise of his squad to the Premier League.

The cases of Arturo Vidal and Alexis Sánchez

Other important cases for Berizzo are Arturo Vidal and Alexis Sánchez, who will be under the orders of “Toto” for the first time. The Flamengo midfielder and the Olympique de Marseille attacker usually play for their teams, something very different from what happened in the Qualifiers for Qatar 2022.

Both Reinaldo Rueda and Martín Lasarte suffered with the substitution of both players at Inter Milan throughout the qualifying process. Now, in their new squads, the historic Reds have guaranteed minutes every time they play for the Chilean team, something that will affect football, but also their moods.
