There probably won’t be a career like Arturo Vidal’s in the history of Chilean football. The current midfielder, who initially worked as a stopper, even as a left back and who was nicknamed “Celia Punk”, has toured the best leagues in the world and has been a star in some of the biggest clubs, such as Juventus and Inter Milan in Italy, Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen in Germany or Barcelona in Spain.
In South America, before becoming the “King”, he found his place in Colo Colo, and now, at 35 years old, he is one of the stars offered by Flamengo. Team with which this Wednesday he achieved just the last success of his long career: Mengão complied with the procedure and, in a much more fought match than the idea, won Vélez Sarsfield by 2 goals to 1, in the mythical Maracaná , in order to advance to the final of the Copa Libertadores.
For that Vidal returned, to fulfill his dream of being crowned in the Libertadores, a contest he had not played for 15 years. And now, in just over a month and a half, he will have the opportunity to lift it, when he faces Athletico Paranaense in Guayaquil, on October 29.
Anyway, with this new milestone in his career, King Arthur added an unprecedented record: he is the first Chilean player to reach the finals of the Copa Sudamericana, the Champions League and the aforementioned Copa Libertadores.
That yes, now the national star hopes to break the mufa, because in the previous cases, he could not make the Olympic return. In 2006, when Colo Colo advanced to the South American final, Vidal was one of the promises of the impeccable team led by Claudio Borghi, but he could not do anything to prevent the victory of the Mexican Pachuca.
Then, in 2015, he was one of the bastions presented by Juventus, but in the decisive duel he met Lionel Messi, Neymar and company. Barcelona embittered them, on that occasion, 3 to 1.
Now, since his arrival at Fla, Vidal added minutes in the quarterfinals against Corinthians and in the semifinals against El Fortín. In fact, yesterday he was the starter until the 63rd minute, when he gave his place to the other Chilean, Erick Pulgar. Both added praise for his commitment.
In October, the “King” hopes to have his revenge.
